Information Technology management and the higher level professionals that run these departments such as: Chief Information Officers (CIOs),Chief Technology Officers (CTOs), Chief Security Officers (CSOs), VPs of Information Technology and Information Technology Managers or Directors develop and direct the firm’s IT strategy. IT management positions of this caliber require these professionals to have an extensive background and knowledge base of all facets on information technology. They need to be able to coordinate, develop, direct and offer leadership with other senior management in order to provide the vision that is needed in this fast paced environment.
Some responsibilities for IT Management professionals include:
- Reducing costs (through improved efficiency and productivity) to ensure the financial performance of IT.
- Continuously ensuring the quality of services and high customer satisfaction.
- Showing that IT investments are increasing the business value of IT.
- Being innovative in the use of corporate information assets while managing risk and minimizing the cost of delivery.
- Working closely with CEOs, COOs, CFOs and other high-level executives to orchestrate the IT policies and procedures.
- Leading the IT team in areas such as: LAN/WAN architecture, systems operations, data systems, software and hardware purchasing decisions.
- Overall responsibility for business-specific compliance (Sarbanes-Oxley {SOX}, 21 CFR 11, HIPAA and more…)

Chief Information Officer (CIO) One of the main duties of a CIO is to develop and direct the company’s overall IT strategy in all aspects of IT management and operations. |

Chief Technology Officer (CTO) Some of the main duties of the CTO are to set the company’s overall technology standards and practices and make recommendations to offer technology solutions to senior managment. |

Chief Security Officer (CSO) The CSO will manage the firm’s security policies and systems. They will coordinate with outside consultants in order to sustain the systems and keep them current. |

VP of Information Technology This individual will have to have expertise in all aspects of management to enable him or her to lead the technology team in the day-to-day operations as well as to integrate the strategies of the IT department. |

Information Technology Manager This individual is responsible for analyzing the work flow and delegating specific projects to meet the departmental goals. |
