Network Manager

This individual typically reports to the VP of Information Technology or the IT Manager. This person is frequently located at each site and is responsible for the function of the network. In small companies, this person is in charge of the entire network operation, and probably has some analysis and design responsibilities. Employers look for this individual to have a bachelor’s degree yet it is not always necessary as long as they have over 10 years of experience in a networking environment. Network Managers should also have about five to seven years of managerial experience in the networking department and should have excellent communication skills; both written and oral. They should also possess the certifications from Microsoft or Cisco. The Network Manager positions had an increase of 3.5% from 2006 to 2007 and the salary range for this position is: $68,000 – 93,000.

Some responsibilities for the Network Manager include:

  • Collaborate with the Network team: network engineers, architects and others to implement, test, deploy and integrate the network system
  • Write up reports to higher-level management about the IT system: performance, utilization and compliance
  • Managing the staff in the network department
